Open a document 500 x 500.
Create a layers and apply black color on it ‘Black’. Hide it for now.
Now create another one layer which we will be using to draw splash.
Select a hard brush 13px . On the brush settings – modify the to the following.

Select red color (#bc0000). Drag the brush upwards to make a dotted line like below.

From the filters gallery apply “chrome” with the settings below.

The brush strokes has been turned into a new splash effect.
Now the color has been changed to grey. We will add color to it in the following step.

Now bring back the black BG which has been hidden to visible.
Select the magic want (B), change the tolerance to 12, anti-alias. and select the white part.
From the Select Menu, select the “Similar”. Press delete to remove the white selections.

Press crtl+U to open the hue/saturation settings. Now lets apply some color to it from the following.

To change the levels of the colors, press ctrl+L. Change the levels to following to give a more live colors.

Duplicate the splash layer and place it to make a complete splash like below. Transform and scale a little and change the angle to give a realistic spray effect.

Tips: You can give a better finishing to the splash by closing the ends.
Now take a bubble brush and with the same settings first we used start drawing along the splash.

Next give some glow to the form.
Take a hard brush 9px. Change only the scattering of the brush to 500%. Start drawing along the splashes.

Apply outer glow.

Make a shape like below and fill it with white. Apply Gaussian blur.

Place the layer just above the black BG layer. Change the transparency level to 70.

Now we will take a can image, and place the effect on top of that. The can image can be downloaded from here

(Due to copyright issue the name has been changed)
Place the can in the lowest layer , above the black BG.
Create a new layer just above the black BG layer.
Change the foreground color – #a40a2a and background color – # 662d91.
Go to the filters and apply radial blur . Move the slider to max and select the method to zoom.

Apply halftone from the filters gallery (default settings).

Place the can below the splash carefully.

The end results.

I dont really understand a couple of steps.
You say to hide the Black Layer but then where do you paint… on the first layer (White). And also… when you bring back the black layer… if that layer is on top then what would you be selecting? I am working with CS4
Hi Disco
1)Thanks for the err in mentioning the default white layer. Will mention it now. 2) We start drawing on the white layer with red brush.

nice result……………..thanks for help……….
i tried doing this but i am stuck on the third step. i have made the outline with the brush…and also hide the black layer. but i cannot use the chrome filter…as it is not showing me the sketch option in filter. y is it so? to recheck on the option i brought an image in a new layer and tried chrome effect on it…it worked on the image layer…but its not working on the brush layer…y is it so…plz help.
thanx for replying on my previous problem. it got solved. but now after applying the chrome option, my outline colour changes to grey but it doesn’t show me the chrome effect. Just the red dots get converted to grey dots…why is it so?
Hi, i have the same problem with the third step; making the splash. It just turns the dots gray and i do not see a chrome effect. I have tried everything. But its not only the chrome effect if i put and filter on the dots it doesn’t change or at least i don’t see the effect applied. Im not sure what i am doing wrong. Can you please help me. I would truely appreciate it! Oh and by the way this is an awesome tutorial
Thanks a lot Cenoyes.
In the 3rd step, (be sure you are working on a new layer) when chrome filter is applied, change the filter settings ie. Details to 10 and Smoothness to 10. Hope this will give solve your problem.
Same problem with the chrome effect, it doesn not have that squishy effect once it was applied. The brushes are still in perfect round grey circles.
Note chrome details are 10 for both settings.
