Assessing customers is essential in defining your style to create user interface design. Jeff Bezos suggests studying the prospective users in order to aim your goals; the users’ expectation is your key to build an interactive interface.
In this sense, you must also match the users’ experience and expectations, including research on the previous popular interface, some familiar sequence of steps, amicable layout information, as well as common user interface patterns. This way, users do not have to learn a new system and cause discomfort while using the apps. More often than not, this is also why most applications with similar themes have a similar layout – common convention.

Build User Engagement

The second step is to build user engagement, which measures the quality of your user interface design. If you have studied the users’ experience and expectation, the more likely they will stay to explore the app. An engaging experience should create an enjoyable and desiring session—this will likely also help your customers to become more productive.
You should notice that most social media applications can “keep” their users intact because they offer an exciting experience. Some of the important things are creating flow and knowing your market—you don’t have to reinvent the tools; simply upgrade with the need for the apps.

Simple Isn’t Boring

The first rule, don’t bother to add complicated plugins or anything that will confuse your users; instead of making it useful, the users will simply neglect your app because it’s not functional—at least for them. Everything should be made simple, yet not simpler. Remember that the simple your interface, the users will likely get more familiar with its content.
The users scan, they don’t read. Put functional minimalism inside your head and avoid any unnecessary functions or features. However, the process may be a little too complicated; it means you have to go through a complex procedure to simplify your interface. Before creating one, ask yourself; do the users really want to see animated gifs? Do they need the bling ring surrounding the screen? If not, don’t let your ego get in the way.

The next thing to keep in mind when creating an interesting user interface design is to maintain its consistency. I understand that developing is paramount, but let your users get familiar with the content first before constantly changing the pattern. Language, layout, design pattern, interaction, as well as buttons, should be placed from the users’ point of view.
Consistency also helps to prove the users’ expectation right. They can learn to use the app in a glimpse, and you can also use their experience to monitor which part doesn’t work as it should be. Breaking the consistency can cause your users start learning all over again.

Error Detection

To detect error is to be forgiving. Your users may be a tech-savvy, but mistakes are sometimes unavoidable; this way, preventing error is sometimes more complicated than fixing it in the first place. One of the most common methods is by disabling irrelevant functions that will cause a problem.

If the users mistakenly input their data, be sure they get the option to undo their action. For example, provide a format as when the users input their birth date so if they type it incorrectly, the interface will automatically let them know what to do. This way, you also educate the users to prevent errors from re-occurring.

Visual Attention

Be that as it may, a visual appeal is among dozens of things that make your interface look promising—and attractive. However, you still need to consider the relationship between your interface and structure used—based them on the importance and purposeful.

To create visual attention, you may incorporate all the functions including hierarchy, colors, and texture in order to create clarity, readability, and legibility of the UI. For example, be sure to make the click target big enough and place navigations on the edges of the screen.

Perceivable and Easy to Learn

In addition to simplicity, your user interface should be easy to learn. Simple is nothing if your users cannot relate to the content and doesn’t match their expectation. Allow them to review the interface and let them identify when to be able to interact with other social media like buttons to connect to Facebook, Instagram icon, texture, and many more.
Building an initial engagement is another purpose of your interface to be easy to learn. It makes interaction intuitive and requires the consistency of designs and patterns. From this point of view, you should realize that all criteria are interconnected.

Communicate Through Feedback

Simple communication will leave your users impressed. When they are done attempting an action, let them know whether it’s correct or not. If it’s correct, simply say thanks or invite them to subscribe to your page; if not, tell them what is wrong.
A simple pop-up animation is good but make sure you don’t make too much of it. One thing to remember that everything must happen fast; 3 seconds is common, and if the page load within more than 5 seconds, don’t display the progress bar as it will make the users wait longer.

Allow The Users to Have Control

Once you build the fundamental process of making the interface simple, easy to learn, the next step is allowing your users to have more control. By doing so, they will be more comfortable in using the app or site, boost confidence, and empowered to operate it even further.

Provide the users with self-explanatory and obvious instructions, intuitive architecture, easily recognized links, and get rid of the unclear pattern.

Basic Templates are Never Dull

As a web designer, I understand if you want to invent something creative and sophisticated user interface to wow the audience. But hey, do you or the users get to operate the app/site? Coming with a high-end design is one thing, but most people are, more often than not, think that convention is more comfortable to use.

In this sense, don’t be discouraged to use basic templates as they have come up with useful features and much easier to learn. Follow the users’ expectation, and you’ll be rewarded by increased traffic.

There you have ten basic principles in creating an interactive user interface. Remember that you are making for the audience, not to satisfy your ego. Be sure to follow the rules and you’ll be fine.
